The Star Tribune All-Metro First Team

This years All-Metro Girl's Basketball team is, left to right, Michelle Young from Woodbury, Tessa Cichy from Hill-Murray, Rachel Banham from Lakeville North, Marissa Janning from Watertown-Mayer, and Bethany Doolittle from Hill-Murray. David Brewster, St

MICHELLE YOUNG

Michelle Young

5-9 | Senior | Guard | Woodbury

Perhaps the fastest player on the first team, her speed creates matchup problems. Scored in double figures in all 28 games, averaging 22.1 points per game with a high of 36 (twice, against Roseville and Forest Lake). Her improved play-making skills were a big reason why the Royals won 20 games. Committed to Bradley.

BETHANY DOOLITTLE

Bethany Doolittle

6-4 | Senior | Center | Hill-Murray

The most accomplished low-post scorer in the state. Her average of 17.5 points per game would be higher but for the Pioneers’ depth. Also gets 7.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game. Exceptionally consistent, she never has an off game and plays her best in the biggest games. Committed to Iowa.

RACHEL BANHAM

Rachel Banham

5-10 | Senior | Guard | Lakeville North

Athletic, strong and instinctive, Banham became a top-25 recruit nationally with her play for North Tartan AAU last summer. She creates her own offense, either by driving the lane or with an unparalleled pull-up jumper. A natural play-maker with excellent court vision, she has become a top-notch on-ball defender. Committed to Minnesota.

TESSA CICHY

Tessa Cichy

5-11 | Junior | Guard | Hill-Murray

An intense competitor with a will to win and a knack for making big shots in key situations. An inside-outside threat strong enough to get off her shot in traffic yet agile enough to hit the three-pointer in transition. Poised on the court but not afraid to mix it up inside. Averages 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game.

MARISSA JANNING

Marissa Janning

5-9 | Junior | Guard | Watertown-Mayer

A gym rat with great bloodlines. Brother Matt starred at Northeastern University and now plays in the NBA D-League. A natural scorer, she has a quick release on her textbook jumper with range out to 25 feet. Slippery on the court, she can turn potential disaster into a scoring opportunity. Second in the metro at 23.6 points per game.

METRO PLAYER OF THE YEAR
