What to watch as the Class 2A field gets underway Wednesday morning.

Roseau's Kiley Borowicz (44)

Class 2A story lines

1. Roseau primed to live up to rating

Not since the playing days of Megan Taylor has there been so much fanfare about the Rams. No. 1-ranked Roseau (29-0), the only unbeaten team in the field, finished third in the state tournament a year ago after a fourth-place finish in 2015. Be prepared to hear the name Borowicz plenty this week. The three Borowicz sisters — senior Kiley, sophomore Kacie and eighth-grader Katie — are the Rams’ three leading scorers. Kiley has scored over 3,000 career points, the second player from the school to reach the coveted milestone. Roseau is the only school in the state to have two such players. Taylor reached the mark in 1997.

2. Best on the bench at New-London Spicer

Wildcats mentor Mike Dreier will be making his record 17th appearance in the state tournament. The state’s winningest girls’ basketball coach owns a career record of 891-164 in 39 years, all at New London-Spicer. His teams have won 20 or more games in a season 30 times. Dreier’s teams have won state championships in 1997 and 2002, and finished as runners-up another six times, including last year. The Wildcats (26-3) suffered their only losses this year to state tournament teams — two to Watertown-Mayer, one to Sauk Centre.

3. Redhawks just getting started

Minnehaha Academy will be appearing in its ninth state tournament in the past 10 years, and 11th in a 17-year span. Those numbers should continue to go up in the near future. Redhawks coach Josh Thurow starts one junior, three sophomores and a freshman. His first two players off the bench are a sophomore and freshman. Thurow has six players averaging between 6.5 and 15.9 points per game, led by freshman guard Mia Curtis.
