Undefeated Hopkins received the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A state tournament bracket ahead of No. 2 Elk River, No. 3 Lakeville North, No. 4 Eastview and No. 5 Park Center.

The Royals face Lake Conference rival Minnetonka Tuesday at the Target Center in the quarterfinals -- a rematch of last year’s state championship game won by the Skippers. Hopkins swept the regular-season series with Minnetonka this year (77-49 on Dec. 9 and 80-54 on Jan. 31).

Making its first state tournament appearance since 2006, Elk River looks to remain unbeaten as it begins the state tournament on the opposite side of the bracket. The Elks open the tournament against a White Bear Lake team that is playing in a third consecutive state tournament.

Elsewhere in the opening round, Lakeville North faces Andover and Eastview battles Park Center.

The Spartans face Willmar in the quarterfinals Tuesday night at the Target Center, and the winner will advance to face either Grand Rapids or Alexandra in the semifinals.

DeLaSalle returns to the state tournament under second-year coach and former player Tanysha Scott. The Islanders last appeared in 2013, when they won the last of three consecutive state titles. DeLaSalle faces the third-seeded Winhawks, who were the Class 3A runners-up a year ago.

Holy Angels draws first-time entrant Waseca in the quarterfinals, and a Stars' victory could could set up a potential state championship rematch in the semis should Winona also avoid being upset.

Watertown-Mayer and Rochester Lourdes, which are making their first appearances at state since 2010, meet in the first round, while New London-Spicer clashes with the Esko for the opportunity to advance to a possible matchup with the Rams -- one the Eskomos may be extra motivated to make after losing to Roseau 67-47 in the regular season.
