The regular-season schedule has reached its midpoint, but identifying which teams are conference and postseason title contenders remains difficult after a slew of ranked teams lost last week, including St. Michael-Albertville.
The Knights, who are No. 6 in Minnesota Basketball News' Class 4A rankings, were defeated by No. 2-4A Elk River 65-62.
The loss to the undefeated Elks snapped a seven-game winning streak that helped St. Michael-Albertville climb back into the top 10 rankings. The Knights started the season at No. 4, but consecutive losses to Apple Valley and Hopkins knocked them down in the poll.
St. Michael-Albertville will try to jump-start another winning streak Tuesday against a Wayzata team also looking to string together several victories.
The Trojans saw their three-game winning streak end after falling to No. 1-4A Hopkins 85-55 on Friday, but their young lineup gets another shot to prove themselves against a quality team as they host the Knights.
This clash between teams ready to show they are capable of being contenders for league and postseason titles is our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
