First Report

Danielle Schaub’s final two free throws thwarted a Woodbury comeback, while teammate Ann Simonet posted a game-high 17 points to lead Park Center to a 58-53 victory Saturday night in the Super 60 Showcase at the Lindbergh Center in Hopkins.

Simonet scored eight straight points midway through the final frame to give the Pirates (9-4, 4-0) an 11-point lead.

The Royals (8-4, 4-2) pushed back and, after a three from Maren Blodgett, cut the deficit to two points with under a minute and a half remaining.

Schaub drove to the rim and laid up a basket that ultimately was enough to clinch the game for Park Center, ranked No. 10 in Class 4A by MN Basketball News.

Cecile Kieger made it interesting by banking in a 3-pointer from the wing to make it a 54-53 affair with 30 seconds remaining and ended the night with a team-high 14 points.

A final shot by Woodbury was wide and the Royals were forced to foul Schaub off the ensuing inbound, leading to the final two of her 16 points on the night.

Rachel Hakes helped Woodbury dig itself out of a hole early, scoring six of her 13 points on a 13-point run for the Royals in the first half.
