Updated girls' basketball rankings: Jan. 4

Class 2A

Norwood-Young America recorded three wins to remain undefeated and move up one spot to No. 4 in this week’s rankings. The Raiders (10-0, 3-0) have held their opponents to an average of just over 45 points per game so far this season.

Senior Kiley Borowicz, ranked third in state with 262 points, helped No. 1 Roseau improve to 10-0 with 27 points in their 84-56 win over Heritage Christian. The Rams (10-0, 3-0) boast an average of over 81 points per game.

Both No. 5 Watertown-Mayer (8-1, 1-0) and No. 6 New London-Spicer (8-1, 1-0) moved up one spot from last week’s rankings after posting multiple-win weeks.

Hayfield (9-1, 4-0), after losing its first game of the season to No. 3-1A Plainview-Elgin-Millville, has won the past nine and broken into this week’s rankings, claiming No. 8. Pipestone (6-0, 4-0) also made an appearance in the rankings, as the No. 9 Arrows remain undefeated on the season and have allowed less than 40 points in four of their games. 

Class 1A

The top nine teams in the Class 1A rankings all held tight to their positions, as all but one team turned in perfect weeks. Half of the top ten teams remain undefeated.

Maranatha Christian Academy (4-3) posted three wins, including a three-point victory over No. 10-2A Annandale, to bring its record above .500.

Fifth-ranked Cromwell (6-1, 3-0) defeated Clearbrook-Gonvick before losing for the first time this season, falling to No. 1-1A Mountain Iron-Buhl (9-0, 1-0) the next night.

Lyle-Pacelli (5-0, 2-0) snuck into the No. 10 spot, despite not yet playing over the winter break. 

Mankato Loyola (8-1, 3-0) holds at No. 9 after handily defeating New Ulm Cathedral. Senior Lindsey Theuninck, ranked sixth in the state with 241 points, scored 26 points in the 74-28 win.
