6-foot Wisconsin recruit lost for season with torn ACL

St. Peter, the No. 2-ranked team in Class 2A, suffered a big loss during their holiday tournament. While they were champions of the tournament and maintained their undefeated record (6-0), they lost key player AnnMarie Brown to a torn ACL in her knee in the championship game.

Brown, a 6-foot senior power forward who signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at Wisconsin next year, left the game with 11 minutes left in the second half in the Saints 57-55 win over New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Brown scored 11 points and had 13 rebounds to that point in the game, helping the Saints to a 10-point lead.

She missed a shot and was making a move toward the basket for the rebound when "she felt something pop in her knee and then went down to the ground," St. Peter head coach Bob Southworth said.

Southworth said it will take a collective effort from the rest of the team to fill the hole left by Brown's injury. He added that while the injury is a huge setback for Brown, she is looking forward, focusing on getting ready for college basketball.

"It's a big loss to replace," Southworth said. "I've been really impressed with how she's handled it."

Brown averaged 18.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists while leading the Saints to the Class 2A state tournament, their first state tournament berth since 1997.
