Conference races across the state will start to heat up this week with teams diving into the league portion of their schedules.
Among the most watched races this season will be the Lake Conference, where three teams are in the top 10 of Class 4A rankings provided by Minnesota Basketball News.
Hopkins has dominated league play for more than a half-decade, but could see its reign end as Wayzata and Edina are showing to be legitimate challengers.
The No. 1-4A Royals have won or shared a conference title for the last six seasons. The last time Hopkins didn't finish atop the league standings was in the 2009-10 season, when Edina won the Classic Lake Conference.
There's a buzz around the No. 7-4A Hornets again this year, and it would grow louder with a win on Friday, making this matchup our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
