Tuesday, December 7

Worthington 58, Fairmont 46: Worthington senior center Martha Alwal had a triple-double Tuesday night with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 12 blocked shots. Alwal, who has been offered a scholarship to Mississippi State, was instrumental in helping the No.6, Class 3A Trojans hold off the surging Cardinals in the second half. Alwal scored seven points as Worthington’s built a 14-3 lead in the first half. She opened the second half with with six consecutive points put the Trojans up by 21.

Friday, December 10

St. Cloud Cathedral 42, Melrose 38: Senior forward Erin Januschka lifted Cathedral to a pair of big victories. Januschka’s double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds) helped power Cathedral over West Central Conference opponent Melrose at home on Saturday. She also had five blocks in the game. In Friday’s 56-49 non-conference win over Eden Valley-Watkins, Janushka also scored in double digits, scoring 14 points to help the Crusaders beat the Eagles for the first time in 15 years.

Minneota 57, Canby 41: The No. 7, Class 1A Minneota Vikings rallied from a first half plagued by fouls and turnovers, outscoring rival Canby 34-14 in the second half to win this battle of undefeated teams. The loss is Canby's first in the Camden Conference since January 30, 2009 when Russell-Tyler-Ruthton beat them 70-68. Vikings senior Taya Kockelman made three three-pointers in the second half and finished with a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds. Ashlynn Muhl finished with a double-double (15 points and 18 rebounds) after being held to just six points in the first half. Minneota head coach Chad Johnson told the Marshall Independent how much this win means to the team. “We needed that win. Canby’s one of the better teams in the conference and one of the better teams in the section, so we needed a win like that to see where we’re at.” Canby had taken a 27-23 halftime lead on the strength of a 14-0 run in the final five minutes of the first half. Riley Nordgaard scored 10 of those 14 points and finished with a game-high 28.

Sauk Centre 53, New London-Spicer 49: Sauk Centre's took its No. 6, Class 2A ranking out for a spin against perennial power New London-Spicer, holding off the Wildcats behind four free throws in the final minute by Maren Greenwaldt and Emily Petermeier.Greenwaldt led all scorers with 17 points.

Austin 67, Rochester Century 62: The Packers won their first game of the season as senior captain Sophie Hebrink went 3-for-4 at the free-throw-line in the final minute. The Packers trailed by as many as by 16 points in the first half, but they rallied to tie the score at at halftime. Sophomore center Jenna Svoboda scored 19 of her career-high 27 points in the second half and added nine rebounds. Babaye Oja added a double-double -- 14 points and 11 rebounds -- for the Packers. "We got the ball inside and Jenna had a great game," Austin coach Gary Peterson told the Rochester Post-Bulletin. "Babaye was a workhorse on the boards. She just hustles the whole game." Senior Melissa Pumper kept Century within striking distance with her long-range shooting. She made six three-pointers en route to a team-leading 24 points.
