Eastview met Eden Prairie in last year's Class 4A state semifinals, where the Lightning dispatched the Eagles 62-51 before moving on to win the title.
Needless to say, but Eden Prairie could have revenge on its mind when it travels to Eastview on Tuesday.
The game, however, is more than a rematch. It is a showdown - with an additional wrinkle thanks to a transfer - between two teams ranked in the top 10 of the preseason poll provided by Minnesota Basketball News.
The top-ranked Lightning return senior guard Madison Guebert, who averaged 22.0 points per game last season, and senior forward Hana Metoxen, who averaged 8.1 points per game. Eastview also adds to the mix senior forward Samantha Trammel, who is eligible to play after sitting out last year as a transfer from Eden Prairie.
The Eagles, ranked No. 6, lost their top scorer from a team that finished third a state when Martha Kuderer transferred to Chanhassen. Eden Prairie will rely on senior forward Emma Boehm (10.7 ppg last season) as a presence down low.
The expected high emotions and substantial talent from both teams makes this our pick for the Top Game of the Week.
