Point guard Hanna Vidlund is looking forward to showcasing her style of play

After barely failing to qualify for the state tournament last year, the Forest Lake girls’ basketball team is ready to begin with a fresh lineup to replace seven seniors who graduated. Point guard Hanna Vidlund is looking forward to showcasing her style of play. She recently signed with Concordia University (St. Paul). She talked about the upcoming season:

Q Last season you were pretty close to getting to the state tournament.

A Three points away, I think.

Q What’s new this season?

A We are a completely different team. We are all pretty fresh. It is a team of all guards pretty much. Instead of having big posts, our game will be a lot faster with fast breaks. It’s a huge change for us.

Q Do you think that will be good for your game?

A Yeah. We had a D-I player last year, a post, go to Creighton. We had a lot of big players, so our game was really focused on the posts. This year we are more centered on guards. I’ll be able to shoot more without worrying about getting the ball to those girls.

Q What makes you fit in at point guard?

A I’m able to see the floor pretty well. I’m a taller PG, too [5-10] so that is unique.

Q So what made you decide to play at Concordia?

A I really like where it’s located; I wanted to be close to home. I liked the coaching staff, and they’ve had a winning record the past couple of years. That’s important to me. I want to win.

Q Do you think your team’s new style will translate well into college ball?

A Concordia recruited a lot of fast, really tall guards. So it will be really similar. I think they will play quick, with a lot of fast breaks.

Q You must be pretty fast.

A I get it done.
