Class 4A story lines

1. Formidable field
The eight-school field has captured a combined four state championships and four runner-up finishes in the past decade. Bloomington Kennedy triumphed in 2005 and claimed second in 2006. The capital city took over from there as St. Paul Central went back-to-back in 2007 and 2008. Centennial finished second in 2009. Lakeville North enjoyed a perfect 2010 season. Eden Prairie placed second in 2011, and Bloomington Kennedy was runner-up last March. And don’t forget St. Michael-Albertville, which won the Class 3A title in 2009 and seeks to become the first program to win championships in three different classes. The Knights won the Class 2A title in 2001. Accomplishing the trifecta, fittingly, depends on the Knights’ three-point shooting. In back-to-back games this year, Rae Johnson and Bobbi Brendefur tied the school record with seven three-pointers made.

2. Nobody’s perfect
No. 3 seed Bloomington Kennedy, which split two South Suburban Conference games with No. 1 seed Eastview, handed the Lightning its only loss this season. Marquette-bound Kenisha Bell and Tonoia Wade, who will also play in the Big East at St. John’s, combine for more than 30 points per game.

3. Fab Five
No. 5 seed Anoka made program history when all five starters signed letters of intent to play college basketball: Claire Lundberg (Seton Hall), Jordan Meyer (North Dakota), Kyrah Fredenburg (Concordia-St. Paul) and sisters Amber and Ashley Bray (Dakota Wesleyan).
