There has been an inevitable collision course set between Bloomington Kennedy and Eastview since they met in last year’s state Class 4A semifinals. In that game, second-seeded Kennedy overcame poor shooting and tough defense to beat third-seeded Eastview 43-39 and advance to the state final.
And with strong underclassmen on both teams — and playing twice a year in the same South Suburban Conference — it promised to be only a preview of some terrific battles this winter.
Thursday night is the first meeting since last March and nearly everything has gone as expected. Eastview has looked like future champions, winning 12 straight games to open the season. Kennedy stumbled a bit in December, losing four of seven games, but has righted the ship since the turn of the calendar.
Eastview comes into the game as the favorite, ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 4A, while Kennedy is the squad looking for the upset bid. Either way, the rematch is our top game of the week of Jan. 13-19, 2014.
