Bloomington Kennedy coach Quintin Johnson described senior Tonoia Wade as a matchup nightmare.

Lakeville South, undoubtedly would agree after the No.6-ranked Eagles beat the Cougars 60-49 Friday at Lakeville South High School.

Wade poured in 26 points for an impressive road win for Bloomington Kennedy, which had a limited bench with a handful of injuries that are plaguing it.

"With her size and skill, she causes a lot of problems," Johnson said.

The Cougars opened with a 15-4 run, which included four 3-pointers. Wade and fellow senior Kenisha Bell took over and got Bloomington Kennedy back on track.

"I just told Kenisha (Bell) that we have to start scoring," Wade said. "They got off to a nice lead, but it wasn't like we were doing everything right and they were hitting shots. We were a little messed up, but we got it figured out."

Wade scored 15 points in the first half, which was enough to give the Eagles a 31-26 lead at halftime. She did not slow down in the second, helping Bloomington Kennedy extend its lead as much as 13 points.

In the middle of the second half Bloomington Kennedy had a 5-minute scoreless stretch, allowing the Cougars to pull within four points.

Johnson took a timeout to get the Eagles back in order.

"We needed it," he said. "As you see, we don't have many players on our bench, so it allowed for us to get some rest and also stop their momentum. That's what timeouts usually do."

"I think we were getting a little tired, maybe not enough oxygen to the brain or something," Wade said. "After the timeout we got it back together."

Bloomington Kennedy responded with a 15-4 run to wrap up the win.

Friday night marked the third time this season the Eagles held an opponent to under 50 points. Especially considering how hot Lakeville South was at the start, Johnson was pleased with the defensive performance.

"When you play a zone you are going to give up some shots, but I was really happy with how we played on defense," he said. "They have a girl that has some height, but everywhere else we had the size on them."

Bell and Lashayla Wright-Ponder each scored 12 points for Bloomington Kennedy to go along with Wade's 26.

Brianna Miller's 17 points and Katie Quandt's 10 led the way for Lakeville South.

"This was a big win for us," Johnson said. "This is a conference and section oppenent, so I am very happy to come out of here with a win."
