Monticello charged back from 15 points down to upset No. 3 Fergus Falls 79-78 in two overtimes in their 3A quarterfinal Wednesday at Williams Arena.

Monticello gave up 15 unanswered points in the first half, and trailed at one point in the second half 50-35.

But the Magic (25-5) fought back and hit crucial free throws down the stretch. Grace Sawatzke tied the score at 63-63 with a layup with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

Monticello outlasted the previously undefeated Otters in the second overtime period.

The Magic will play DeLaSalle in a semifinal game on Thursday.

3 Stars

1. Grace Sawatzke, Monticello
Sawatzke made the Monticello offense click the entire game. She was an excellent game manager at the point guard position and was nearly impossible to stop when penetrating to the basket. She finished with 23 points and 8 assists.

2. Bailey Strand, Fergus Falls
Strand did everything she could to keep the Otters in the game, but in the end it wasn't enough. She was on fire from 3 point range, finishing 6-10 on threes in the game. She led Fergus Falls with 26 points and provided most of the offense in the overtime sessions.

3. Bailey Bechtold, Monticello
Bechtold hit two clutch free throws in the second overtime that gave Monticello a 4 point lead with 9 seconds left and effectively iced the game. She finished with 16 points in the game but it was her free throws down the stretch that allowed Monticello to advance.
