Hannah Halterman

Rosemount girls' basketball player Hannah Halterman is more than willing to share her Christmas "wish list" with any last-minute shoppers.

The senior guard's list is one that could be expected from a soon-to-be high school graduate. The three-sport athlete also plays soccer and runs track for the Irish.

Here is a closer look at Halterman as she prepares for the holiday season:

What is on your Christmas list this season? New Uggs, gift cards, money.

What is the most memorable Christmas gift you have ever received? Last year I got a TV for my room.

What is your favorite Christmas carol, and why? "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" because of all the silly little verses to sing.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Funny; outgoing; hard worker.

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "All The Above" by Maino; "The Show Goes On" by Lupe Fiasco; "Red" by Taylor Swift.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... intimidated by the upperclassmen. I was a freshman practicing with the varsity basketball team and I was pretty clueless.

What are your goals for the upcoming season? My goals are to become the best athlete I can and push my team to succeed at the highest level. I'd love for my basketball team to make it to the section finals.

What is your favorite meal before a game? Tortellini or spaghetti with meat sauce.

To get focused for a game, I ... eat a good meal and listen to music.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... I annoy them.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? This past fall my soccer team played Lakeville South. We were tied 1-1 with three minutes left. I got a great through ball from my teammate and scored the game-winning goal! Also, almost getting stranded in Grand Rapids by a blizzard while our team was there for a basketball tournament over the holidays two years ago.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I am very organized. I make sure that I put aside time to study and do homework even if that means not being able to do fun things sometimes.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? Evening out the strong conferences and sections so the best teams make it to the state tournament.

Do you have a secret talent - and if so, what is it? I'm the best at fishing in my family, except for my grandpa.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... a nurse in a hospital emergency department.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Today I'm going to do what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't." I saw it painted on a wall at a basketball training center when I was in sixth grade, and I have remembered it ever since.
