It’s not often that you see a highly ranked Class AAAA school square off against an outstate Class AA school but that is what you will get at the Tip-Off Classic when Lakeville South plays Esko.

Both teams have big post players inside, but the guard play could tell the tale. Lakeville South will be missing its starting point guard, Maddie Wolkow, to minor injury while Esko has added a guard transfer in Claudia Turner from Barnum. Both teams are also ranked in the top 10 in their class, but are ranked behind another team in their section.

Katie Quandt vs. Savanna Trapp
This is a great matchup of true “5” players who both are imposing threats on defense. Trapp has the height advantage, but Quandt has the size and strength advantage. Hopefully each team’s guards will feed them the ball and they can put on a show.

Why Lakeville South will win:

• Schroeder and Meier get hot from three-point land and it becomes a shoot-out.
• Katie Quandt goes right at Savanna Trapp and gets her in foul trouble, making it easier for the Cougars to score on the block and on drives.

Why Esko will win:

• The Eskomos will take advantage of Lakeville South’s missing point guard and pressure their guards into turnovers.
• Savanna Trapp will be the big eraser inside and make it tough for Lakeville South to score.
