Chaska overcame a slow start -- and a big game from NRHEG's Carlie Wagner -- to earn a 57-56 victory in the Breakdown Tip Off Classic at Hopkins' Lindbergh Center. Chaska's MaKena Panning hit one of two free throws with 5.1 seconds remaining to break a tie game.
Wagner poured in a game-high 32 points and helped the Panthers to a 12-point halftime lead. But Chaska chipped away in the second half, taking the lead in the final minute. Wagner tied it at 56 on a driving layup, setting up Chaska to hold for the last shot. Panning drove into the lane and was fouled with 5.1 seconds left. She hit the first of two free throws and the Hawks gathered in the offensive rebound to kill the clock.
Jade Schultz added seven points for the Panthers, while Ellie Thompson led Chaska with 15 points and Nicole Parsons had 10.
