St. Michael-Albertville vs. Wayzata

5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 16

Wayzata has cemented itself as one of the best teams in the state this year, climbing to No. 2 in the Class 4A rankings from Jan. 10.

After defeating Lake Conference rival Hopkins 70-66 last week — with Mimi Schrader leading the Trojans with 20 points in the win over the No. 3-4A Royals — Wayzata (16-0, 3-0) has momentum on its side.

St. Michael-Albertville (11-2, 3-0) is on its way to yet another undefeated season in the Mississippi 8 Conference, which would secure the No. 5-4A Knights their sixth straight league crown. But to show it belongs in the conversation about the state's best teams, St. Michael-Albertville needs a signature victory over a highly ranked foe. The Knights' two losses are to No. 1-4A Eastview (60-43 to open the season on Dec. 2) and to a then-No. 1-ranked Hopkins (79-64 on Dec. 19).

To pull the upset on Tuesday, St. Michael-Albertville will need strong performances from the high-scoring duo of Jadyn Hanson and Mackenzie Kramer, who have averaged a combined 29.7 ppg this season.
