New Ulm vs. Waseca

7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2

It’s early in the conference season, but when Waseca hosts New Ulm on Tuesday, it’ll be between the two top teams in the Big South East Conference.

The main reason New Ulm (7-2, 2-1) has gotten off to a strong start -- and has won three straight -- has been the play of Joey Batt, who not only leads the Eagles in scoring but leads the state with 29.8 points per game.

The Bluejays (11-1, 3-0) have a more balanced attack on offense, featuring six different players who average eight points or more this season. All six have scored 15 or more points in a game this season, with Madison Gehloff and Hannah Potter each tallying 25 or more in a game.

Though the conference season is still young, this game may prove to be vital to the final standings. If No. 13-3A Waseca wins and gains a two-game lead on New Ulm, it will give the Bluejays a cushion to work with in the title race.
