Minnehaha Academy

vs. DeLaSalle

5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 6

Neither of these teams that have yet to live up to preseason hype.

DeLaSalle came into the season ranked as the top team in Class 3A but two early-season losses to Mahtomedi (51-36 on Dec. 2) and Robbinsdale Cooper (52-48 on Dec. 9) sent the No. 7-3A Islanders tumbling down in the rankings.

However, since those blemishes, the Islanders (6-2) have won four consecutive games. During the winning streak, they've been victorious by an average of 15.75 points, and allowed 28 or fewer points in two of those wins.

The Redhawks (6-4) came into the season ranked in the top three of Class 2A, but four early-season losses, including a 56-47 decision to Willmar last Thursday, have pushed Minnehaha Academy down to No. 8.

If the Redhawks are going to get back on track against the Islanders, it starts with the scoring Mia Curtis and Taytum Rhoades. Curtis leads the team in scoring with 20.1 points per game, while Rhoades averages 16.1 and scored a team-high 30 points this season, which came against Dover-Eyota on Nov. 25.

Both of these teams qualified for their respective state tournament last season. A win in this matchup could go a long way to getting back to that point.
