Byron vs. Red Wing

7:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 14

Another cross-class matchup makes the list as two top-10 programs with some familiarity are set to face off Thursday. No. 4-2A Byron will travel to No. 8-3A Red Wing to see which team comes away with a big early-season nonconference win.

In last year’s Class 3A, Section 1 tournament, Byron, the 5-seed, defeated Red Wing, the 4-seed, 70-60.

Ayoka Lee, now a senior for the Bears (1-1), scored 49 points in that game. She has carried over her scoring efforts into this season, averaging 23 points in the Bears’ two games.

To satisfy their revenge, the Wingers will need the help of Tayzha Buck, who led the team in scoring (14 ppg) last year. That hasn’t changed this year, as her 15.7 points per game has been the team's best once again.

The Wingers (4-1, 2-1) enter Thursday's matchup looking for a chance at redemption after last season’s section tournament loss. Given that they're no longer in the same class, this is Red Wing’s only chance to beat Byron this season.
