Rochester Mayo vs. Northfield
7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3

Northfield looked impressive at the St. Olaf Holiday Hoops Classic last week while playing a trio of Class 4A teams. However, the No. 7-3A Raiders (8-1, 5-0) recorded their first loss of the season in the event's opener -- a 65-57 defeat to Prior Lake.

Northfield played without leading scorer Kaylyn Kidd (12.8 points per game) in the loss, but she returned for the final two games of the tournament and made a difference. The senior post had 12 points in a 58-51 win over Farmington and notched her 1,000th career point in a 53-37 win over Eagan.

Kidd will help lead the Raiders' charge against Rochester Mayo, last year’s Big 9 Conference champion.

The Spartans secured the league title help by a 32-30 win over Northfield last January. Rochester Mayo finished one game in front of Rochester John Marshall for the conference crown.

The Spartans (5-2, 4-1) fell to No. 7-4A Lakeville North 59-39 on Dec. 30, snapping a four game winning streak. Hallie Olson led Rochester Mayo in the loss with 17 points.
