White Bear Lake vs. Woodbury
7:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4

White Bear Lake usually ranks near the top of the Suburban East Conference standings, and while things haven’t changed for the Bears, they seem to have several challengers this season -- including Woodbury.

White Bear Lake (6-4, 2-0) recorded a 57-53 win over Edina, ranked No. 8 in Class 4A by Minnesota Basketball News, at the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament on Dec. 28. The Bears' Claire Odmark finished with a team-high 20 points, helping boost her team-best scoring average to 9.8 points per game.

White Bear Lake fell 57-38 to St. Michael-Albertville the following night. Jordan Ferrand scored a team-high 12 points for the Bears, who trailed 31-15 at halftime and never recovered.

The Royals (5-2, 0-1) have built a solid resume and won two of three games in the Roseville Holiday Tournament last week. Woodbury defeated Roseville 53-39 before getting by Andover 52-48 behind a game-high 20 points from Cecile Kieger and 14 from Rachel Hakes. The Royals fell to Centennial 61-47 the event's championship game.
