Academy of Holy Angels vs. Hutchinson
7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 15

The top two teams in the Class 3A rankings meet Thursday in what could be a postseason preview, but neither Holy Angels nor Hutchinson is likely looking that far ahead.

Holy Angels (6-0) has passed all of its early season tests, with a 75-73 win over No. 5-2A Minnehaha Academy and a 70-61 win over No. 2-1A Maranatha Christian Academy coming in the first four games.

Destinee Oberg leads a trio of double-figure scorers for the No. 2-3A Stars. She averages 15.5 points per game while Kaylie Van Der Werf (10.2 ppg) and Megan Meyer (10.2 ppg) have emerged as additional threats. Riley Thalhuber is pulling down 13 rebounds per game.

The No. 1-3A Tigers (4-0) haven’t faced many ranked opponents, but they posted a solid 79-64 win over once-ranked Kasson-Mantorville in the season opener.

Four Hutchinson players are averaging double figures in scoring this season, with St. Cloud State commit Tori Wortz leading the team (17.5 ppg). Morgan Kurth (14.2 ppg), Elle Wheatley (11.2 ppg) and MaKenzie Rensch (10.5 ppg) have bolstered the Tigers offensively.
