Maranatha Christian Academy vs. Mountain Iron-Buhl
3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10

It took a buzzer-beater last season for Maranatha Christian to get past Mountain Iron-Buhl in overtime of the Class 1A state tournament semifinals, and the Rangers might still be steaming from the loss.

Jayzryn Thompson collected a rebound off a missed free throw and made a layup with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime to send the Mustangs to the title game.

Thompson returns this season for No. 2-1A Maranatha Christian, along with Kylie Post, who averaged more than 12 points a game through the postseason last year.

Mountain Iron-Buhl has already made up for one of its three losses from a season ago following a 78-34 thrashing of No. 1-1A Goodhue Saturday at the Breakdown Sports Girls' Tip Off Classic.

The No. 3-1A Rangers broke down the Wildcats’ press and showcased their shooting touch, led by Chelsea Mason. The senior had 24 points to improve her season average to 22.3 points per game. Mary Burke (20.3 ppg) finished with 17 points while Macy Savela and Patty Overbye each had 10.

The win made up for a nine-point loss to Goodhue last season at the tournament, and Mountain Iron-Buhl now tries for another when facing Maranatha Christian.
