Wayzata vs. Edina
7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9

The Lake Conference schedule kicks off Friday for Wayzata and Edina, two teams that have a chance to compete in what should develop into contentious battle for the league crown.

Wayzata features sophomore Kallie Theisen (12.5 points per game), who had 19 points in a 57-43 season-opening win over Maple Grove, but the No. 9-4A Trojans like to spread the scoring around. Five other players average at least 6.5 points per game this season, including Sydney Franks (10.5 ppg) and Jasmine Smiley (9 ppg).

Edina swept the regular-season matchup with Wayzata a year ago, including a 62-57 overtime win. The Hornets rode that success to the Class 4A, Section 2 semifinals, where they bowed out to eventual state champion Minnetonka.

Edina (1-0), with Division-I recruits Annika Jank and Bailey Helgren, opened the season with a 54-36 win over Burnsville on Dec. 2. Jank, a Colorado recruit, scored 28 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Helgren has signed to play with Kansas next season.
