Shakopee at Hopkins

Shakopee supplanted Hopkins as the top team in the Class 4A rankings last week, a spot the Royals had for most of the season.

North Carolina commit Taylor Koenen continues to be a dominant force night in and night out for Shakopee  (17-0, 10-0), even with the Sabers playing in the challenging South Suburban Conference.

Koenen, a senior who averages 20.6 ppg on top of grabbing 7.9 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game, posted 26 points in a big league win over No. 3-4A Eastview on Jan. 19.

The No. 2-4A Royals (17-2, 3-1) were on a 11-game winning streak before running into Lake Conference foe Minnetonka on Jan. 22, but bounced back with two wins last week.

Senior Nia Hollie, a Michigan State commit, leads a deep and talented Hopkins team at 15.8 ppg, and fellow senior and Hampton commit Ashley Bates posts 12.9 ppg.
