According to Google Maps, it’s a 5 hour, 51 minute drive from Roseau to the Twin Cities. That is as good a reason as any for the Rams’ 50-37 victory over No. 3 seeded Esko in the Class 2A quarterfinals. No sense in making that drive again so soon.

As they have all season, the Rams (25-6) were led by the Borowicz sisters:  Kiley, sophomore and Kacie, an eighth-grader. Kiley scored 23 points, making eight straight free throws in the final six minutes, and Kacie added 20. In fact, only three players in all scored for the Rams. Junior Amelia Johnson had the other seven points.

“They’re special players,” coach Kelsey Didrikson said of the Borowicz’s. “It’s good to have them on our side.”

“When one of us has a bad game, the other does too,” Kiley said. “But when we start playing well, we just go and feed off each other.”

Esko was making it’s 11th state tournament appearance and second in a row, having finished third in 2014. Roseau, on the other hand, was making just it’s third trip to the tournament and first since 2000.

“This is so huge for Roseau,” Kiley said. “Even the hockey team was there for us and that usually never happens.”
