Alison Hinck scored 19 points, and the White Bear Lake defense held Roseville star Monica Burich without a field goal in the second half, as the Bears grinded out a 53-41 win in the Class 4A Section 4 championship game Thursday at East Ridge High School.

Roseville, ranked No. 7 in the Class 4A standings, had beaten White Bear Lake twice already this season — both times by 11 points. The Raiders finished unbeaten and atop the Suburban East Conference standings, a spot above the Bears.

None of that mattered Thursday, though.

Hinck hit a three-pointer coming out of a timeout with 6:44 remaining in the game to help put the Bears up 38-30. She’d hit a layup two possession later to extend the lead to 10.

And Roseville couldn’t make up enough ground.

Alexa Molin scored eight for the Bears, and Kate Brabenec chipped in seven.

Burich, who came into the game averaging more than 18 points per game for the Raiders, scored just two after the break — both on free throws. She finished with 16 points before

White Bear Lake came out firing.

Hinck scored on a fastbreak layup off the opening tip, and drained a three-pointer on the next possession. The Bears would jump out to a 14-4 lead, before Burich helped the Raiders climb back into it.

The 6-2 University of Colorado recruit scored the Raiders’ next 13 points. And after a string of three straight long jumpers, Burich closed the lead to one last in the first.

The teams would go into the break tied 22-22, but after halftime, it was all White Bear Lake.
