Elk River at Moorhead
4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21

The No. 6-ranked Elks (18-3) have only three losses, and all have come against ranked Class 4A teams (No. 3 St. Michael-Albertville, No. 4 Minnetonka and No. 8 Rochester John Marshall). Elk River is 2-1 against Class 4A, Section 8 foes, including a 69-56 loss to the Knights on Feb. 12, and a victory over section foe Moorhead could help the Elks hold off St. Michael-Albertville for the top seed in the section playoffs.

Junior center Abi Scheid (18.4 ppg) and sophomore guard Gabi Haack (15.2 ppg) provide Elk River with a 1-2 offensive punch, and the Elks will need both players to be at the top of their game as they take on a streaking Spuds team that hasn’t lost since Jan. 22.

Moorhead (14-7) is riding a seven-game winning streak and has scoring threats in freshman guard Sam Haiby and sophomore forward Brooke Tonsfeldt. Haiby scored a game-high 21 points and seven assists while Tonsfeldt had 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 60-59 overtime victory at Alexandria on Feb. 14.

The Elks defeated the Spuds 78-54 in last year’s section playoffs.
