Simley at Mahtomedi
7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 17

Simley went nearly a month without a loss, winning 10 consecutive games from Dec. 29 to Jan. 20, including a 61-55 victory over No. 10-2A St. Croix Lutheran. But the Spartans are 3-3 in since ending the winning streak, with one of the losses coming at the hands of Mahtomedi (74-54 on Jan. 27).

The rematch on Feb. 17 would allow Simley (15-8, 7-4) to avenge the defeat but also close the gap on the Zephyrs in the Metro East Conference standings. The Spartans are in fourth place and trail second-place Mahtomedi by two games.

Junior forward Abby Kain (16.9 ppg) and senior guard Katie Atkins (11.8 ppg) are Simley's top scorers, while junior guard Marissa Ruiz (9.6 ppg) has shown she can have a big game, dropping a game-high 22 points in a 70-68 win over St. Anthony on Dec. 4.

Mahtomedi (18-5, 9-2) is 10-1 in its last 11 games, including a 65-54 upset of No. 7-3A Hill-Murray on Feb. 6. Senior forward Ali Greene (19.7 ppg), sophomore guard Marisa Gustafson (11 ppg) and freshman guard Emma Grothaus (11 ppg) are the team's leading scorers.

The Zephyrs are just one game behind league leader Hill-Murray in the Metro East standings.
