Rochester John Marshall at Rochester Century
5:45 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29

Rochester John Marshall has been the talk of the town, but Rochester Century could become part of the conversation with a victory in this Big 9 Conference matchup.

The Rockets shot to No. 5 in the Class 4A rankings thanks to a 13-game winnings streak, but their meteoric rise ended with a 42-31 loss at No. 7-4A Edina on Jan. 17.

Rochester John Marshall responded with a 62-37 victory at Mankato East six days later, led by junior center and Arizona State commit Jamie Ruden, who scored 24 points. The Rockets are No. 8 in the most recent rankings.

Rochester Century enters the week on a two-game skid that includes a 61-59 loss to Owatonna on Jan. 16. The Panthers led the Huskies 57-53 with 1:24 to play but could not hold on for the victory as Syd Schultz's buzzer-beating layup gave Owatonna the win.

Morgan Hazelton finished with 14 points and Elizabeth Bruss had 12 to lead Rochester Century in the loss.

The Panthers (8-4, 6-3) may not catch the league-leading Rockets (14-1, 11-0) in standings with a victory, but Rochester Century could impact Section 1 seedings by defeating its crosstown rival.
