Bloomington Jefferson at Bloomington Kennedy
7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20

Crosstown rivalries seem to bring out the best in teams no matter their records, and this matchup between Bloomington Jefferson and Bloomington Kennedy should be no exception.

But these teams are more than intracity foes, they also are battling for position in Metro West Conference and in Class 4A, Section 2, making this contest even more significant.

Bloomington Jefferson (6-6, 1-2) is coming off a 56-48 win over Richfield, led by senior guard Sydni Starling's 13 points. Sophomore guard Ellie Gess leads the Jaguars in scoring at 11.4 points per game. The Jaguars' six wins matches their entire win total from last season.

Bloomington Kennedy (2-11, 2-2) seems to have fallen hard from its perch after graduating most of the talent that led the Eagles to a second-place finish at the state tournament last year. Kennedy, however, still features some solid players, such as junior forward Lashayla Wright-Ponder (16.9 ppg), who presents a nice contrast to the talented Jefferson backcourt.
