Senior guard Jacky Volkert has been lighting up the scoreboard for Mounds View (2-0), averaging 28.5 points per game through two contests. The Mustangs dispatched Irondale 74-59 in their last game, using a 45-point second half to pull away with the victory. In addition to Volkert, the Mustangs rely on freshman guard Sara Wendt, who’s averaging 12.5 ppg.

 

Chisago Lakes (3-0) has advanced to the state tournament in each of the last three years and seem primed for a fourth consecutive appearance despite a young roster. The No. 7-3A Wildcats feature four freshmen. However, Chisago Lakes has an emerging star in senior forward Sarah Greene, who scored 22 points and added 14 rebounds in a 64-62 win over Superior (Wis.).
