Minneapolis Washburn puts a lot of pressure on Chase Coley to score points.

The Millers leaned on the Iowa recruit again Thursday as Washburn held on to defeat Holy Family 74-67 in the Class 3A, Section 6 final at Chanhassen High School.

Washburn returns to the state tournament for the second year in a row after finishing fourth at the Class 2A tournament last year.

“Lately I’ve gotten into a lot of foul trouble so that’s been something I’ve tried to get better at,” said Coley, who finished with a game-high 27 points. “The big focus is getting the ball into the middle to me and either pass or shoot. They usually collapse on me, so I can usually find someone open.”

Holy Family made it difficult in the first half as the Fire forced 11 turnovers by collapsing on Coley on several key possessions. Sarah Menzuber pressed the issue by scoring six unanswered points in the span of a minute to tie the score at 25 with 6:41 left. That sparked a 13-1 run for the Fire.

But then Coley took over.

She scored 13 second-half points, including two free throws that gave the Millers a 70-65 lead with 1:21 left, forcing Holy Family to foul the rest of the way.

Lucia Renikoff finished with 12 points for the Millers, and Aliyah Wilson added 10.

Michaela Rasmussen led Holy Family with 17 points. Molly Smith had 14 and Menzuber added 13.
