No. 2 Hopkins at No. 3 Eden Prairie
7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7
MN Girls' Basketball Hub Spotlight Game

With a full lineup in recent weeks, Hopkins again looks primed for another long and successful playoff run. The Royals are back up to No. 2 in the Class 4A rankings behind unbeaten Eastview with as deep and talented a roster as any program in the state.

And the scary part for opponents? It’s also a young roster that figures to only get better.

Sophomore Nia Hollie (12.2 ppg) leads the Royals in scoring and is coming off a 26-point effort in a victory over Minnetonka. She’s a big guard with strength and athleticism — a good description of much of Hopkins’ lineup. Senior Molly O’Toole (12.0 ppg) is tough inside, as is freshman Jasmyn Martin (9.6 ppg), a long and intimidating post player. Junior T.T. Starks (7.6 ppg) is the Royals’ leader and can play any position on the court. She missed much of the first half of the season due to injury, but her return has Hopkins rolling.

Eden Prairie has been on a roll since losing to Chaska on Dec. 27. The Eagles have ripped off seven straight victories, outscoring their opponents by an average of 22.4 points per game. Leading scorer Martha Kuderer (17.1 ppg) has three straight 20-point games, while junior Emma Boehm (12.1 ppg) has hit 20 twice in the winning streak.

Junior Rachael Platt (5.8 ppg) has also been a beast inside recently, posting a double-double in both a win over Superior on Jan. 15 (10 points, 10 rebounds) and a win over DeLaSalle three days later (14 points, 15 rebounds). And senior point guard Jayla Mayes-Jackson (8.2 ppg) makes the show run as a true floor general.

This is the first of two meetings between the two Lake Conference powers. They’ll play again Feb. 25 at Hopkins in the final week of the regular season.
